    Advisor Name/Contact Info:
    • Richard Martin
Description: Produces the award winning student newspaper. The Redline incorporates a great deal of hands on learning as part of the curriculum. While students investigate the history of mass media, learning why and how newspapers began in the U.S. as well as the importance of the 1st Amendment and libel laws, etc., they are intimately involved in the process of creating the monthly school newspaper. Student reporters generate ideas for stories in their staff meeting, assign stories and deadlines, then begin the process of gathering information in order to write their stories. They edit, review and publish under the tutelage of their advisor Mr. Martin, who is an award winning journalist and writer himself. Through the years, they have been able to consistently earn major recognition for the American Scholastic Press Association as one of the top high school newspapers in the state, earning a number of first and second place designations. The class is open to all grade levels and includes an honors section entitled Journalism II, which can only be taken after having completed Journalism I.
