A Wonderful Community of Early Learning
Killingly Central School has 9 Kindergarten classrooms. We believe that Kindergarteners learn best by doing, are physically active and spontaneous, and are growing in independence and responsibility. Students participate daily in Purposeful Play, Readers and Writers Workshop, Illustrative Math Curriculum, and Science.
Students also participate in Unified Arts: Music, Art, Physical Education, Library, and Social/Emotional Learning. We also focus on a variety of social emotional skills: participate in group activities, work and play cooperatively, work without disturbing others, develop self-confidence, exercise self-control, observe rules of safety, be courteous and friendly, and take turns and share.
Four and five year olds learn best through their own first hand experiences. They need many opportunities to touch, feel, handle, create, build experiences, and explore. Some of their time is spent on play, for play is the business of childhood.
