    Welcome to the Killingly Memorial School Physical Education Page!

    Students will meet for Physical Education class on a weekly basis.  They will be participating in age and developmentally appropriate activities.  I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful students!
     
    Students will be expected to follow the school wide rules:
    1.  Be respectful
    2.  Be responsible
    3.  Be safe

    National Standards for Physical Education
    Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health.  The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. 

    A physically educated person: 

    Standard 1:  Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities

    Standard 2:  Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities

    Standard 3:  Participates regularly in physical activity

    Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness

    Standard 5:  Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings

    Standard 6:  Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self expression, and/or social interaction


    *Safety! 
    Don't forget tennis shoes!  If a student is not wearing sneakers, he or she will be given an alternate assignment. (writing assignment) Tennis shoes should have a rubber sole with shoe laces or velcro.  All shoes that tie must be tied tight and on top of the shoe. 




    Jump Rope for Heart
    All students will have the opportunity to raise funds for the American Heart Association.  The students will get to spend the entire class period participating in a variety of jumping activities.  They will jump for a hero!

    Family Fitness Night
    The gym will be full of fun physical activities and the cafeteria will have educational stations.  We will be giving away prizes, raffle baskets, nutritious snacks and much, much more!!  Come join us for a night of FUN!

    ACES Walk
    All Children Exercising Simultaneously (ACES)
     The entire student body will go for and outdoor walk at 10:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday in May.  Millions of children around the world will be doing the same thing! 
    Thank you Troop D for working with us every year by blocking the roads and keeping us safe!

    Field Day
    An entire day filled with fun physical activities!

    State Physical Fitness Testing
    All 4th graders will participate in the state physical fitness testing.  This includes - one mile run for time, sit ups, push ups, sit and reach. 
    Testing window:  New this year...students can be tested at any time during the school year! 
     
     
    About me...
    This is my 13th year teaching PE in Killingly!  I graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education.  I have a Master's degree in Sports Management.  In addition to teaching PE I also teach Health & Wellness at Eastern Connecticut State University.  I am extremely passionate about health and physical activity. 
    I love to run and exercise!!  Stay active!
