Richard Martin is an award winning teacher and writer, who has recently published his first novel, Mae! A graduate of the
, he has spent over 30 years teaching high school English, earning numerous commendations and awards, including being selected twice as Teacher of the Year at his former school (Burrillville High) in Universityof Rhode Island . (He is the only teacher in the history of the school to earn the award twice.) Additionally, he has been honored by the National Education Association and other organizations for his dedication and service, including being selected as Coach of the Year by the Woonsocket Call for his success as girls varsity basketball coach at Burrillville. Mr. Martin was also selected as Citizen of the Year for his home town of Glocester, RI. Mr. Martin came to KHS in 2000 to start a writing program. He is the advisor for the school's award winning newspaper, The Redline. He teaches English 12 College Preparatory, Journalism and 10 Honors English. Rhode Island
Mr. Martin has been a professional writer for over 30 years, as well. His stories and columns have appeared in The Observer ,The Woonsocket Call, The Providence Sunday Journal, Providence Magazine and numerous other publications. He has earned recognition and top awards from both the Rhode Island Press Association and the New England Press Association, among others, for his writing. He is currently working for Smithfield Magazine as a columnist and feature writer. Mr. Martin recently completed his first book, which he is in the process of getting published, and is working on a second book.
I enjoy teaching, and I enjoy writing, says Martin. I am one of those lucky people who has been able to do two things that I love doing.
Mr. Martin lives on a small farm in rural Glocester, Rhode Island with his wife, three dogs, two cats, a horse and a half dozen sheep. He enjoys mountain biking, cross country skiing, traveling both at home and abroad and adventure!
