March 29, 2020

Dear KPS Families,

Killingly Public Schools is committed to continuing to support our students during this challenging time.

Remote Learning Plans:

Tomorrow, Monday March 30th, we will be implementing  our Remote Learning Plans.  If you need technical assistance to support your child's remote learning on Monday or  if you have questions related to device pick up, please contact our IT department at (860) 779-6665.  Staff will be available to answer questions from 8am-12pm on Monday 3/30 and Tuesday 3/31.

Remote Learning Plans for each school can be found here:

School Building Closed

As a district, KPS will be moving additional staff to work remotely and closing all school buildings this week.  School staff will respond to questions remotely, and our Central Office will be open from 8:00-12:30 each day to respond to calls.

Device Pickup,

We will be doing another device distribution next Tuesday 3/31/20 from 4-6pm at Killingly Intermediate School. This will be an opportunity for any families with K-8 students that have not yet picked up a device to get one.

In order to help us prepare, please fill out this 5 question survey. This is a new, shorter survey:

During the extended school closure, Killingly Public Schools will be offering free Grab and Go prepared breakfast and lunch meals for all children under the age of 18.  Meals will be distributed at Killingly Memorial School, 339 Main Street Monday, Wednesday, and  Friday from 10:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m. A walk-up and drive-thru station will be available.  When bagged meals are picked up, four meals will be provided. Each student will receive two breakfast meals and two lunch meals to span over two days. For those children under 18 years of age who do not live within a half mile of Killingly Memorial School, we have created a delivery service to bring those meals home to children on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Please call the Killingly Transportation Dept. at 860-779-6790 if you are a family that would like to be added to the delivery system.

Please note, this plan is subject to change, dependent upon on enrollment and the COVID-19 status in our community.

March 20,2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On March 16, 2020 the Governor issued an executive order canceling school classes through March 31.  While no additional guidance has been provided, we expect school classes to be canceled beyond March 31.  While we await additional information from the State here are some important updates as we prepare for next week.

Prior to our closure, our schools provided two weeks of learning materials for students as we awaited further news on closures from the Governor.   While no official announcement of extended closures has been made, our administrators and teachers continue to prepare for extended remote learning, if needed.

On Monday March 30th, Killingly Public Schools will be launching our Remote Learning Plan.  This plan is aimed at continuing education for students during our extended closure.  Our Remote Learning Plan is a blended approach which provides both online activities for families who have internet and computer access, as well as academic learning materials which will be sent home for families who do not have access.

For the week of March 23rd through 27th, we will be asking students to continue to access education through the online portals and learning materials which schools have already communicated and sent home.

An outline of the Remote Learning Plans for each school will be posted on Monday March 23rd, one week before beginning our Remote Learning Program.  A communication will be sent home from your school’s principal in the next few days with further details. These plans will be available here:

We will continue to participate in regular state conference calls and will continue to pass information along to you. We understand that the possibility of extended closure is disappointing news for many students and families involved in the wide variety of activities hosted by our schools. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility during this time.

April Vacation remains scheduled at this time

At this time there are no changes to the planned April vacation. There will be no school starting Friday, April 10 (Good Friday) through April 17. If we are still using  Remote Learning at this time, students and teachers will certainly need this time to step away from school, computers, and devices.

Internet Access and Technology Survey

We are working to develop a plan to provide longer technology support for those families who would benefit during a more extended closure. This includes issuing district devices to families and working with local internet providers to provide wireless access to high school families.

We would ask every Killingly Schools family to please complete our survey if you have not done so already. Please only respond once per household. In the future, we will reach out to those who identify a need for technology support with more information. Click here to complete the survey

As noted before, we are so proud of how Killingly Public School families, teachers and our staff members have risen to this occasion. We commend them for their dedication to students, their creativity and flexibility, and their kindness and caring.

Take Care,

Killingly Public Schools Leadership Team
